#DEATH is an inventive, haunting, and humorous theatrical exploration of grief. The production intricately weaves perspectives from Death herself, The Deceased, the celebrant, family, and strangers. As we journey through the funeral, characters are unveiled, connections unfold, and the impact of loss ripples through the mourners, placing you, the audience, right in the midst of this captivating odyssey.
This is a new Australian work by renowned cabaret artist and vocal powerhouse Aurora Kurth, who brings all characters to life. She is supported by composer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Anderson (Rebel: The Show), who draws from traditional and unexpected instrumentation – piano, trombone, bass guitar, chains, pipes, bells, and waterphone – to create the sonic world. They are directed by Elena Kirschbaum (Rouge), whose award-winning circus shows are known for stunning spectacles that play ‘big’ and feel intimate to audiences.
#DEATH seamlessly blends theatre, music, and ritual, delving into the complexities of death and grief while inspiring reflection and joy. In development, this show is expected to be performance ready in late 2024.
